What is Rose Gold and Gold Vermeil Jewellery?
You may have heard about Gold Vermeil and Rose Gold Vermeil Jewellery. Many of Nisha Halo’s handmade designs use Gold and Rose Gold Vermeil. So what is it?
Pronounced ‘ver-may’ (French for silver) refers to a variety of gold-coated metal. For metal to be considered vermeil, it needs :
To have a base metal of sterling (92.5%) or fine (99.9%) silver, which is why vermeil is also known by its other names: Silver Gilt or Gilded Silver
The purity of the gold or rose gold must be of at least 10 carats
The thickness of the gold should be a minimum of 2.5 microns (0.0025 mms)
Due to the thickness of its gold or rose gold layer, vermeil jewellery lasts longer than other plated jewelry. Vermeil is better for sensitive skin than gold-plated jewellery due to the silver base and thicker gold coating.
As gold vermeil jewellery is much more durable than gold plating, so it combines both affordability and quality.
You can look after your gold vermeil to maintain it's longevity by keeping it clean, and away from liquids, perfumes, household products and storing the jewellery in its box rather than with other jewellery pieces where it may be knocked and scratched.
To clean your gold vermeil jewellery use a gentle polishing cloth on your gold vermeil pieces by rubbing the jewellery piece in the one direction to wipe away any dirt.
